Northwestern State University Music Faculty will present a collage concert to kick off the recital season of the 2024-25 school year. Three Reeds duo will perform Gauntlet by Josh Burel. Live stream available here:
I will be performing along side Collier Hyams and his group 50 Man Machine in downtown Natchitoches at the Jazz and R&B Fest.. The festival has multiple stages and starts the Friday before and goes all-day Saturday.

The NSU Bands were part of a consortium to commission James Syler to write a concerto for saxophone and Wind Symphony. The NSU Wind Symphony will be doing our premiere of this concerto, entitled Birds of Paradise on April 18, 2024 in Magale Recital Hall on the campus of Northwestern State University. The Three Reeds Duo and Northwestern State University will host the 3rd International Duo Symposium. Duo from all over the world will be invited to attend. The guest composers will be O’Neal Douglas and Marcus Maroney. O’neal Douglas will be writing a piece for the Symposium and the Three Reeds Duo will perform the World Premiere at the Symposium. Duo Zuniga-Guandique will be the featured artists, both are Professors at the University of Costa Rica. The Three Reeds Duo will perform two of their newest commissions, Places We Are From by Jenni Brandon and the WORLD PREMIERE of Steadfast by Derek Brown, as part of the 2023 Biennial NASA (North American Saxophone Alliance) Conference. This conference will be held at the University of Southern Mississippi. Stay tuned for the exact date and time of their performance.

The Three Reeds Duo will be performing a chamber recital with some of their colleagues and friends on September 20 in Magale Recital Hall at NSU. The concert will feature two trios, one with clarinet and one with piano, as well as two Solo performances. The highlight of the evening will be the World Premiere of Derek Brown’s new piece for the Sax/Oboe Duo! You won’t want to miss this event!

The Forsyth Jazz Collective will be performing at the 2022 Natchitoches Jazz and R&B Festival. Original member, Ronald Rodriguez will be joining us on keys. We’ll be on the jazz stage.
Unfortunately our performance for 2020 was canceled. HOWEVER, we will be back on for 2022! I will have the pleasure of performing Claude T. Smith’s Fantasia for alto saxophone and Wind Ensemble in April 2022 in Magale Recital Hall on the campus of Northwestern State University. Check social media for the live-stream information.
Northwestern State University will welcome Derek Brown to campus on February 19. The day-long event will begin at noon with a Derek Brown jazz combo masterclass, and will conclude with an epic Derek Brown performance featuring the NSU Jazz Orchestra and a World Premiere by the NSU Saxophone Choir featuring Derek Brown. Paul Forsyth will teach a high school masterclass during the event as well.
